General information :
Indian citizens need a visa for the Schengen-Member State Area.
The Member State competent for examining and deciding on an application for a uniform visa shall be:
The Member State whose territory constitutes the sole destination of the visit(s).
If the visit includes more than one destination, the Member State whose territory constitutes the main destination of the visit(s) in terms of the length or purpose of stay.
If no main destinations can be determined, the Member State whose external border the applicant intends to cross in order to enter the territory of the Member States.
A Schengen-visa is for short stay visit in the Schengen Area with a view to transit through or an intended stay in the territory of the Member States for the duration of no more than 90 days in any 180-day period.
A resident permit will be required for working. Exceptions on the right to work without a resident permit can be found on the web site of the Finnish Immigration Service.
With a visa issued by the Embassy, a national of a country subject to a visa requirement may enter the Schengen-area provided that the visa holder fulfills the conditions of entry.

General requirements for all visa applicants :
Processing time is 15 days during high season April-July and in individual cases decision period may be extended up to 30 days.
Personal appearance at the Embassy if the applicant has no previous Schengen-history.
A valid travel document and a one photocopy of it. Travel documents issued 10 years prior to the date of submitting the application are not accepted. The travel document must be valid at least three months after the completion of the journey.
A Schengen visa application form duly completed, dated and signed by the applicant.The form can be completed electronically and printed out. Only application forms in English are accepted
Flight reservation (not a paid ticket), paid tickets with the e-ticket reference number can be presented by collection of the visa, if the Embassy has requested this.
Travel medical insurance, which must be valid for the whole duration of the travel. The minimum amount of the insurance indemnity is 30 000 euros.The travel medical insurance must be acquired from an insurance company approved by the Schengen countries.

The Embassy can receive applications from persons staying in India legally (visa or residence permit).
Applicants under 18 need his/her both parents’ or legal guardian’s formal written consent to travel, if the applicant is travelling alone or with other people than the parents or guardian. During school year, a formal permission for absence from the school is also required.
If the applicant will bear all the costs himself/herself, he/she must present proof of sufficient funds, such as bank statement, salary slip or income tax statement. The Embassy may check the authenticity and stability of the funds stated. If a company, legal person or private person has provided the applicant with an invitation stating that they will bear all or part of the costs, the Embassy may check the validity of the statement.
If the applicant is employed, he/she should attach a letter from the employer stating the nature of employment, duration of the leave of absence as well a valid employment ID. Students should present a valid student ID and letter of enrollment at a University of institute of learning.
Additional appendices for the visa application depending on the purpose of travel
A. Private visit:
Original invitation letter and one photocopy. The free-form invitation letter (no preprinted form available) should state the required personal and contact details concerning the inviter and visitor (name, date of birth, address, phone number, e-mail), the purpose and duration of the visit, clarification of accommodation including address and clarification of the relationship between the inviter and the visitor. The invitation letter must be signed by the inviter and dated.
A marriage certificate, if the applicant and the inviter are married.
A certificate of a family relationship between the inviter and the applicant (such as a birth certificate), in case of a family visit.
A photocopy of the biometric page of the inviter’s passport or other identity document. In case the inviter has visited the applicant in India previously, photocopies of the inviters previous Indian visas (with arrival and departure stamps).
Other supporting documents if applicable i.e. proof of work, studies or proof of sufficient funds.

C. Business trip/conference :
Original free-form invitation letter from a business partner or an organization and one photocopy. The invitation letter should state the contact information (name of the contact person, phone number and address), purpose and date of travel. In case the business partner or organization needs to invite the applicant for several trips in the future, this information must be specified in the invitation letter.

The Embassy may ask for additional appendices, if necessary, such as an extract from the Register of Companies or proof of sufficient funds.

The application form, together with the required appendices, shall be submitted in person to the Embassy during office hours. Those applicants who have been previously granted a Schengen visa, may submit their applications via a representative or via courier.
Applications can be submitted maximum three months prior to the planned journey.
All required documents shall be presented at the time of submitting the application.
Visa processing fees
The visa processing fee shall be paid in Indian Rupees. It is payable by demand draft only which needs to be addressed to “Embassy of Finland, New Delhi”. The fee may vary according to the exchange rate confirmed by the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs monthly. The processing fee is non-refundable.

Processing time and decision on the application
Processing time as a rule is 15 calendar days of the date when the application has been submitted or when it has been received by the Embassy. This period may be extended if required. For groups larger than ten persons the processing time isminimum 20 days.
Information concerning the visa application decision can only be given to the applicant personally or to a person, whom the applicant has authorized by a power of attorney. The power of attorney may be given to the embassy when submitting the application. It must contain full names of the authorized person and the applicant. The power of attorney must be signed by the applicant. The decision can be sent by post but then the Embassy will charge the mailing fee in advance.
Even if a visa has been granted, the preconditions for entry in the country are assessed at the external border.
Applying for a visa in the neighboring countries
Finland is represented by Sweden in visa affairs in Bangladesh. The visa applicants living in Bangladesh are requested to submit their applications at the Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka.
Norway represents Finland in Sri Lanka. The applicants are requested to submit their applications at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Colombo.
Finland is represented by Netherlands in Pakistan, where the applicants may submit their applications at the Dutch Embassy in Islamabad.
The appendices (e.g. invitation letter) shall be presented in English or in the language of the representing country.

If the pax is staying for more than 30 days then the clause is as : In Case the visa is requested for a continuous stay which exceeds 30 days, Invitation from Italian company should be completed with a declaration that no relationship of subordinate or independent work will be instituted. Particularly, its is to specify that the activity to be undertaken does not fall into the category of dependent or independent work for which , under Italian law a regular work contract needs to be stipulated.

As per the new rule if the pax have travelled to Vietnam on Tourist visa, then he can apply for the visa only after 01 year from the date of travel return. (The above is only applicable for Tourist visas, no conditions for Business visas.)
